WHAT TO EXPECT
Everyone feels awkward in front of a camera! relax. My family sessions are less about posing and more about finding ways to interact! My goal is to find activities that you or your family do naturally and emphasize them. the best sessions happen when you do you and i just observe. I may offer the occasion prompt, but my goal is not to create an idealized expression, but rather to capture your most authentic you. Authenticity is what inspires wonder.

choose comfort
I always say, DON'T wear something that doesn't feel like "you". Wear something you're comfortable in! I came by this piece of advice very honestly when I made the same mistake the first time I had family photos done! Thankfully we changed wardrobe midway through. You see, it's as much about the experience as the outcome. When I look back, I can read my discomfort in the first set of images because I did not feel like myself. So, if you're not a dress person, don't decide to be one for your photos. Instead grab your favorite pair of jeans, step it up a notch with a great top or your favorite accessory and own it. Also, avoid wearing a lot of green if your session is outdoors.

how to dress your family
This one really stresses people out, but it doesn't have to! My best advice is to pick an article that has a pattern and colors that you LOVE and build on it. For me, I wanted my littlest to be the anchor because this was her first set of professional photos. I accomplished this by choosing a romper with colors that I loved and then mirrored those colors with tops, bottoms, and/or accessories for the rest of us. Be sure to lay it all out together before the session so you can see how each color or pattern will play with the others. But don't make it fussy! You'll notice that I chose a neutral palette for myself to keep it simple and used a scarf and belt to tie it all together instead.

accessorize
In my humble opinion, the best outfit is the one you've worn a hundred times, only with a few accessories that make you feel like you've stepped up your game. Most people want their pictures to make them look famous. I get it! But keep it simple! Sometimes the best way to take it up a notch is just by adding an accessory that you wouldn't regularly wear, however, not at the expense of your comfort. In the case above, my husband isn't a "fedora guy", but he is a "hat guy". But because he was used to wearing something on his head, it didn't make him feel weird...see how I did that?? Scarves, headbands, bows, etc. are all great ways to add a splash of "extra" without making you feel awkward.
don't forget!
I'm always here to help! If you find yourself stuck on what to wear, send me a picture of what you your working with. I'm pretty good at coordinating outfits by now so I've got your back. Annnndd lets be honest...its just as important to me as it is to you, if ya know what I mean :).
